Born in South Africa in 1913, Jack Cope was a journalist and political correspondent in London for South African newspapers. After the outbreak of World War II, Cope returned to South Africa, and for twenty years, he edited the bilingual literary magazine "Contrast." Cope published three collections of poetry, one in collaboration with fellow African poet C. J. Driver.
