Jan Celliers was born in 1865 in South Africa, where he would become an Afrikaans-language poet, essayist, dramatist and reviewer. Celliers, along with two other Afrikaans-language poets (Totius and C. Louis Leipoldt) who wrote in the aftermath of the Second Boer War. He is most known for his poetry collection "The Plains and Other Poems," published 1908.
