Chinweizu is a Nigerian activist, writer, and poet who was influenced by the Black Power movement in the United States during his studying at MIT and the State University of New York. Chinweizu returned to Nigeria in the 1980s and began working to promote Black orientalism in Pan-Africanism. Chinweizu was critical of what he considered to be elitism in some Nigerian authors, such as Wole Soyinka.
