Charl-Pierre Naudé was born in 1958 in Kokstad, South Africa. He is an award-winning South African poet, reviewer and social commentator. He has published three volumes of poetry in Afrikaans and one in English. His latest publication is Al die lieflike dade (2014, Tafelberg) ("All the comely acts"). The English work is Against the Light (Protea Book House, 2007). He is the winner of the Ingrid Jonker Prize for poetry (1997) for Die nomadiese oomblik (The Nomadic Instant) (Tafelberg) published in 1995; the 2005 MNET Prize for Afrikaans Poetry for In die geheim van die dag; and the 2005 PROTEA Prize for Afrikaans Poetry for In die geheim van die dag. The translator of his poem “Brave New World,” Richard Jürgens, won the FNB Vita/English Academy Poetry in Translation Prize in 1999.
