Muhammad al-Fayturi, also spelled Muhammad al-Fītūrī, was a Sudanese and Libyan poet and writer born in Al Junaynah, Sudan. He grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Islamic Sciences, Philosophy, and History (1953). He is the author of nine poetry collections including ابتسمي حتى تمر الخيل (Smile Until The Horses Passes), أقوال شاهد إثبات (The Saying of Witness) _and عصفورة الدم (Bloody Bird), which was published in 1983. His debut poetry collection, _Songs of Africa (1956), explores the impact of colonialism on the collective African identity. al-Fayturi is known to use Sudanese-Arabic language within the language of Arabic poetry and his work reflects a source of tradition and cultural consciousness. He worked as a journalist and editor for an Egyptian and Sudanese newspaper and was also a member of the Arab Writers Union. He died in Rabat in 2015.
