Abdallah Zrika was born in 1953 in Casablanca, Morocco. He is the author of several books of poetry, including Dance of the Head and the Horse, which was an immediate success with the younger Moroccan generation. In 1978, he was arrested and condemned to two years in jail for disturbing public order with his poetry and for supposed crimes against "the sacred values" of his country. Since his release in 1980, he has continued his career as a writer, becoming one of Morocco's major voices. Several of his books have been translated into French. In addition to his literary interests, he holds a degree in sociology.
