Habib Tengour was born in 1947 in Mostaganem, Eastern Algeria. He studied sociology in France before returning to Algeria where he went on to teach at Constantine University. He is the author of several poetry collections, including: The Mother of the Pearle to the Soul, The Arc and Scar and Shales, and Gravity of the Angel. For his poetry, he was awarded the seminal prize Prix Européen de Poésie Dante. His poems have been translated into numerous languages such as English, German, Italian, and Arabic.
