Habib Tengour was born in 1947 in Mostaganem, Eastern Algeria. He studied sociology in France before returning to Algeria, where he taught at Constantine University. He is the author of several poetry collections, including The Mother of the Pearle to the Soul, The Arc and Scar and Shales, and Gravity of the Angel. He was awarded the Prix Européen de Poésie Dante for his poetry. His poems have been translated into numerous languages, including English, German, Italian, and Arabic.
