Arja Salafranca was born in 1971 in Málaga, Spain, to a Spanish father and a South African mother. She authored three poetry collections: A Life Stripped of Illusions, The Fire in Which We Burn, and Beyond Touch. Her debut collection was awarded the Sanlam Prize, and her most recent collection was co-winner of the South African Literary Award. She earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Witwatersrand. She served as lifestyle editor at The Sunday Independent. She lives in Johannesburg.
