Amina Said was born in Tunisia in 1953 to a Tunisian father and French mother. She studied English literature at the University of Paris, Sorbonne. She is the author of a dozen books of poetry and several Tunisian folk stories, short stories, and essays which draw from French, Arabic, and Mediterranean influences. She taught English for two years at a university in Tunisia and also translated several novels of the Filipino writer Francisco Sionil José. Her work has been translated into several languages including Arabic, German, Turkish, English, and Italian.
