Amina Said was born in Tunisia in 1953 to a Tunisian father and a French mother. She studied English literature at the University of Paris, Sorbonne. She authored twelve books of poetry and several Tunisian folk stories, short stories, and essays that draw from French, Arabic, and Mediterranean influences. She taught English for two years at a university in Tunisia and translated several novels by Filipino writer Francisco Sionil José. Her work has been translated into Arabic, German, Turkish, English, and Italian.
