Obioma Paul Iwuanyanwu was born in 1962 in Umuahia, Nigeria. He is known mononymously as Obiwu. He went to Imo State University for his undergraduate degree in English and literature. He also received a master's and a doctor of philosophy degrees at the University of Jos and Syracuse University, respectively. He went on to become a professor in the humanities at Central State University in Ohio. He is the author of the poetry collections Rituals of the Sun and Tigress at Full Moon. He is also the author of several books of scholarly work such as he History of Nigerian Literature, 1772-2006.
