Albert Nyathi was born in 1962 in Kafusi, Zimbabwe. He learned traditional praise poetry in school and began writing his own poems, inspired by the country's freedom struggle. He earned an honors degree in English literature from the University of Zimbabwe. He gained recognition for his poem "Senzeni na?" written and performed in honor of the assassination of Chris Hani, the South African politician. He authored Echoes from the Kraal.
