Albert Nyathi was born in 1962 in Kafusi, Zimbabwe. He learned traditional praise poetry in school. He later began to write his own poems, inspired by the country’s freedom struggle. He attended the University of Zimbabwe where he graduated with an honors degree in English literature. He grew in popularity following his composition of the poem "Senzeni na?" written and performed in honor of the assassination of Chris Han, the South African politician. He is the author of one book of poetry, Echoes from the Kraal.
