Petra Müller was born 1935 in Botrivier, South Africa. She is most well known for her collection Die Aandag Van Jou Oë (The Attention of Your Eyes), published in 2002 and subtitled “Poems for Love.” The collection explores love and the loss of her husband. She attended Stellenbosch University for her Bachelor of Arts in English and Afrikaans-Dutch in 1955. She began her working life as a journalist, but was forced to retire from the National Press when she was married and had children, during which time she wrote both prose and poetry. After her children were grown, she continued on to a lifelong career as a journalist, editor, and finally, editorial board member at Table Mountain Publishers. In 2005 she won the Herzog Prize for Afrikaans Poetry.
