Ingrid de Kok was born in 1951 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is most well known for her collections Familiar Ground, Transfer, and Terrestrial Things, where she explores the possibilities of shaping the future by dealing with the past and considering the present. She went to the University of Witwatersrand for her undergraduate studies in English and political science. She also received a bachelor's with honors from the University of Cape Town and a master's at Queen’s University. She became an associate professor at the Centre for Extra-Mural Studies, University of Cape Town in South Africa.
