Angessom Isaak was born in 1963 in Eritrea. He is the author of several books of poetry, such as Sewerti Biet Mahbus (1987), Belay Shida (1992), and Zinededet Kara (with Michael Berhe and Ghirmai Yohannes). He served as a public relations and coordinating officer at the Cultural Affairs Burea of the PFDJ. His poem "Freedom's Colors" is considered one of Eritrea’s greatest post-war poems. Written in Tigrinya, it was published in 1996.
