Allan Kolski Horwitz was born in Vryburg, South Africa. He attended the University of Cape Town, where he studied philosophy and literature. He is the author of four books of poetry: Call from the Free State, Saving Water, There are Two Birds at My Window, and The Colours of Our Flag. He has also written and directed several plays, including The Pump Room, Comrade Babble, Boykie and Girlie, Jerico, Book Marks, and Taking Everything into Account. He is a member of the Botsotso Jesters poetry performance group and serves on the Botsotso Publishing editorial board.
