Naana Banyiwa Horne was born 1949 in Kumasi, Ghana. In her work, she explores the themes of womanhood and female subjectivity and critiques traditional subordinate roles expected of women. She is the author of Sunkwa: clingings onto life (2000), which examines and celebrates the complex histories and identities of diaspora living. She went to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, for her bachelor’s degree in English and education. She also received her master’s in English from the University of Florida and her PhD in African Languages and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1993). She joined the faculty of Santa Fe College, Gainesville, in Florida, in 2001, where she is currently an associate professor of English and African Studies.
