Haarhoff Dorian was born in 1944 in Kimberley, South Africa. He is the author of eight poetry collections, the most recent being ZenPenYen (2022). He edited The Inner Eye (1997), a poetry volume by students at the University of Namibia and the Windhoek College of Education. His writing is influenced by literary tradition, mythology, narrative therapy and ubuntu. He received his BA from Rhodes University (1965) and the University of South Africa (1972). He also holds a master’s from Rand Afrikaans University (1983) and a DPhil from the University of York in England. A former professor of English Literature at the University of Namibia, he facilitates creative writing workshops and serves as a mentor in writing residencies throughout South Africa.
