Jeremy Cronin was born 1949 in Durban, South Africa and raised in a middle-class white family in Simonstown. He is the author of More than a Casual Contact (2006), Inside and Out (1999), and Even the Dead (1997). In July 1976, Cronin was incarcerated for his anti-apartheid activities against the state by working with banned liberation organizations. His work examines the freedom struggle, political and emotional landscape of the South African experience. He was released in May 1983. He became a Member of Parliament in 1999 and in 2012, he was appointed the Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works. He holds a BA degree from the University of Cape Town and studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France between 1972 and 1974. He taught Philosophy at the University of Cape Town, where he coedited the volume, Ideologies of Politics.
