Mandla Langa

Biography

Born in 1950 in Stanger, Durban, Mandla Langa is a South African poet and writer famous for his novel The Lost Colors of the Chameleon, which won the 2009 Commonwealth Writer's Prize. In 1974, he became actively involved as a director of the South African Students' Organization (SASO), which led to his arrest in 1976 for attempting to leave the country without a permit and for sedition. After serving a jail sentence, he fled into exile.
