Thomas Pringle

Biography

Thomas Pringle was born in 1789 in Scotland and emigrated to South Africa in 1820. Sometimes called “the father of South African poetry,” he was the first poet to describe South African landscapes and people in English. He published a newspaper and a magazine in Cape Town.
