Godfried Andreas Watermeyer (G.A. Watermeyer) was an Afrikaner poet. He worked as a translator for the South African Broadcasting Corporation and later had a successful career in advertising. He published seven collections of poetry in his lifetime, though his first, Sekel en simbaal, published in 1948, remains the most praised.
Stephen Watson, born in Cape Town in 1954, was a South African poet, essayist, and professor. He authored nine collections of poetry and three books of non-fiction, many of which focused on the city of Cape Town. Watson studied English at the University of Cape Town, where he earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. He later became a professor in the English department at UCT and served as the director of its Centre for Creative Writing. In addition to his writing and teaching, he was also an editor of several books. Watson was an ambassador for poetry and a key figure in South African literature. He died in 2011.
